Bacary Sagna: 'I'm not greedy, I didn't join Manchester City for money'

Bacary Sagna insists that he did not leave Arsenal for Manchester City in order to earn more money.

Bacary Sagna has hit back at suggestions that he only signed for Premier League champions Manchester City for an increase in wages.

The Frenchman ended his seven-year association with Arsenal by agreeing a three-year contract with City on a free transfer earlier this month.

"I'm going to clear everything up because I keep reading that I did for money and I'm greedy," Sagna told reporters following France's goalless draw with Ecuador at the World Cup in Brazil on Wednesday.

"What I want to say is I stayed with Arsenal with the same contract since 2008 and I never asked for more money.

"For people who think it's for money, it's not. I just wanted to change. I needed a boost in my career and I think it was about time."

Sagna will officially become a City player when his Arsenal contract expires at the end of this month.
