Arsene Wenger: 'Arsenal do not lack leaders'

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger dismisses claims that his current team lack the mental strength needed to win the Premier League title.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has insisted that his team 'do not lack leaders' despite the criticism aimed at the Gunners over the last couple of weeks.

Sunday's 3-2 defeat against a under-strength and youthful Manchester United team led to a number of former Arsenal players, including Ian Wright and Paul Merson, hitting out at the team's lack of mental strength.

Wenger was asked on Tuesday who he sees as the leaders in his team, but the Frenchman did not offer any names and instead insisted that the squad 'has a leader in every position'.

"In a collective psyche you always think you need a saviour when you have a bad result. We have won big games this season, many big games with exactly the same players. I don't feel that I lack leaders," Wenger told reporters.

"The team. In every position. The players lead and we try to develop that with our work. Our job is to have a leader in every position."

Arsenal, who are five points behind Premier League leaders Leicester City, will attempt to return to winning ways when they welcome Swansea City to the Emirates on Wednesday night.
