Arsene Wenger criticises Arsenal's defence for their "very poor" showing in Tuesday night's 3-1 Premier League loss at Swansea City.

Arsene Wenger has slammed Arsenal's "very poor" defence after the North Londoners fell to a 3-1 defeat at Swansea City on Tuesday night.

The visitors led through Nacho Monreal's 33rd-minute strike but Sam Clucas levelled for the Swans moments later.

A Petr Cech error then allowed Jordan Ayew to score a tap-in which put the hosts ahead just after the hour mark, before Clucas's second goal made the result safe for Carlos Carvalhal's galvanised charges.

"I felt defensively we were very poor and made big mistakes", Wenger is quoted by the Evening Standard as saying. "It's better not to talk about the second or third goals.

"Swansea were sharp, disciplined and hungry. Unfortunately I believe we were not good enough, I believe we were not disciplined enough."

Arsenal, who have only taken 13 points away from home this season, return to Premier League action on Saturday at home to Everton.
