Arsene Wenger praises Arsenal's strength in character as his charges beat Southampton 3-2 in Sunday's Premier League game at the Emirates Stadium.

Arsene Wenger has praised Arsenal's character and resolve to secure a 3-2 win over Southampton in a thrilling Premier League encounter at the Emirates Stadium.

A Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang strike and Danny Welbeck's brace gave the Gunners all three points in Sunday's game against the struggling Saints.

However, Arsenal had to fight back from a goal down, while Charlie Austin's 74th-minute strike looked to have given Mark Hughes's side a share of the spoils.

Wenger noted that his side took a while to get going in the match, but was delighted with his players' mental strength and never-say-die attitude.

"When you play every three days it is difficult to get into the pace of the game, and when you look at the game today, we were twice in difficult situations at 1-0 down and at 2-2, and again we found the response to win the game," Wenger told Sky Sports News.

"It shows we have the resources, and the spirit especially I would say, that even when the legs don't respond as much as you want, we have the mental resources still to win the game."

Arsenal have won six matches in a row in all competitions for the first time since May 2017.
