Arsenal have reportedly joined the race for Mainz 05 striker Adam Szalai, a powerful forward enjoying his best season to date in the Bundesliga.
The Hungarian international was on the books at Real Madrid for three years, but only ever featured for the club's Castilla reserve side.
Szalai moved to Mainz in 2010 and has been in fine form for the first half of this season, scoring nine times before the winter break.
German newspaper Bild believes that the Gunners are fighting with Borussia Dortmund to sign the striker, a traditional forward compared to Olivier Giroud in some circles.
The 25-year-old is under contract with Mainz until 2015, with manager Christian Heidel insisting that it would take a bid of around £20m for him to consider selling his top scorer.
