Atalanta BC see off Cagliari Calcio in Serie A

Atalanta hold off a late fightback from Cagliari to claim a 2-1 win in their Serie A match.

Atalanta BC have claimed their first win of the Serie A season after beating Cagliari 2-1 this afternoon.

The visitors took the lead in the fourth minute of the match when Marcelo Estigarribia met Boukary Drame's cross and volleyed in from close range.

Diego Farias came close to a response for Cagliari, but he saw his low shot saved by the keeper.

The home side continued to press and Marco Sau's effort beat the keeper, before being cleared off the line by Giuseppe Biava.

In the 67th minute, Atalanta scored their second of the match when Richmond Boakye latched onto a loose ball outside the box before curling an effort into the bottom corner.

With four minutes of the match left to play, Cagliari pulled a goal back through Andrea Cossu's penalty.

They almost levelled the scores soon after, but Daniele Dessena saw his close-range volley blocked by Marco Sportiello as Atalanta held on to take all three points.
