Markus Weinzierl: 'Augsburg focused on avoiding relegation'

Markus Weinzierl insists that Augsburg are still focused on avoiding relegation this season.

Augsburg manager Markus Weinzierl has insisted that his focus is on securing his side's place in the Bundesliga for another season.

Despite currently sitting sixth, level on points with fourth-placed Borussia Monchengladbach, Weinzierl claims that he is not straying from his initial targets ahead of Sunday's clash with Hoffenheim.

"We want to get to 40 points as quickly as possible in order to have nothing to do with relegation this season," the Augsburg boss told reporters. "Now our aim is to get three points that would take us onto 30.

"We've got a difficult challenge ahead and we have the necessary respect for Hoffenheim, who have plenty of individual class.

"But we want to win, put on a show for our fans and prove how strong we are at home."

Augsburg are 10 points clear of the relegation zone.
