Barcelona players and staff to join Catalonia strike

Barcelona release a statement confirming that they will join a protest against the police violence that occurred during Sunday's referendum in Catalonia.

Barcelona have released a statement confirming that the players and staff will join a strike to protest against the violent scenes that marred Sunday's independence referendum in Catalonia.

The authorities have confirmed that at least 92 people were injured and over 800 required medical assistance after aggressive police action.

Some officers forced their way into polling stations to snatch ballots, while others aimed rubber bullets at voters during the troubling scenes at the weekend.

A statement from the Catalan football club read: "FC Barcelona joins the country-wide strike called for by Table for Democracy and therefore the club will be closed tomorrow. None of the professional teams or the youth teams at FC Barcelona will train tomorrow."

The majority of the club's first-team stars are away on international duty this week.
