Interim Argentina head coach Lionel Scaloni has admitted that he is unsure whether Lionel Messi will play for his country again.
Messi has ruled himself out of Argentina's upcoming friendlies against Guatemala and Colombia and indicated that he is unlikely to accept an call-up for the remainder of 2018 following a disappointing showing at this summer's World Cup.
The five-time Ballon d'Or winner has previously reversed a decision to retire from international duty, but Scaloni is unsure whether he will do so again this time around.
"I spoke to him and after that talk, he has not been called up for these games. Honestly, we have not spoken about what will happen in the future," Scaloni is quoted as saying by The Guardian.
"We all know what he represents for us and we shall see what happens. I have a good relationship with him, it was a good chat that we had and we were very clear. He will not be in this call-up and in the future, we shall see."
Messi is Argentina's leading goalscorer of all time with 65 goals in 128 appearances for his country.
