Former Barcelona midfielder Xavi has insisted that the Spanish club's well-renowned academy is not in crisis despite Barcelona B's relegation last season.
La Masia has nurtured the likes of Xavi, Andres Iniesta, Carles Puyol, Sergio Busquets and Lionel Messi in recent years, but Barca B's relegation to the Segunda B last season has led to widespread criticism of the current state behind the scenes.
Xavi, however, is confident that the academy system at Camp Nou will continue to thrive and indeed produce future stars.
"La Masia in crisis? Never. Generations can't always be like the one we've experienced the last few years," Xavi told Marca.
"It was exceptional. Barca is a club that develops but also wins. It's hard to see the limit. If you have a year where you don't win anything, maybe you have to sign from outside.
"But when you've won the treble, maybe it's time for Munir El Haddadi, Sandro Ramirez or Sergi Samper. Barca must always nurture La Masia."
Xavi made his official debut for new team Al Sadd at the weekend.
