Giovane Elber: 'Bayern Munich needed Robert Lewandowski'

Former Bayern Munich striker Giovane Elber believes that Robert Lewandowski was the perfect summer signing for the Bundesliga champions.

Former Bayern Munich striker Giovane Elber has claimed that the Bundesliga champions "needed" Robert Lewandowski this summer.

Bayern signed the Polish international on a free transfer from Borussia Dortmund at the start of July, and Elber believes that the 25-year-old is the perfect acquisition for the club.

"Mario Mandzukic scored a lot of goals for Bayern, but you must admit that Lewandowski's goal in the Telekom Cup against Wolfsburg was simply stunning," Elber told Spox.

"Bayern should be happy Lewandowski now plays in Munich and no longer for Dortmund. Bayern needed a player like him."

Lewandowski has scored 74 Bundesliga goals during his career.
