Matthias Sammer: 'Thomas Muller is irreplaceable'

Bayern Munich director of sport Matthias Sammer pays tribute to Thomas Muller amid suggestions that Manchester United and Chelsea want to sign the German international.

Bayern Munich director of sport Matthias Sammer has branded Thomas Muller "irreplaceable" and an "absolute role model" amid suggestions that the German could leave the Bundesliga for the Premier League.

Both Manchester United and Chelsea have been strongly linked with a move for the 26-year-old, who has scored 20 times in 21 appearances for his German club this season.

However, Sammer has denied claims that the forward could be allowed to leave the German champions by talking up his importance to the club.

"Thomas Muller embodies everything which distinguishes FC Bayern Munich. He is an absolute role model, an absolute gem and he's irreplaceable," Sammer told reporters.

Muller came through the youth system at Bayern and has been in the first team since 2008.
