Sporting director Michael Zorc has insisted that Borussia Dortmund do not need to sell Robert Lewandowksi this summer.
Reports have linked the Polish international with a move away from the German champions ever since it was confirmed that he would not be extending his current contract that is due to expire in 2014.
However, Zorc has revealed that Dortmund are in a financial position where they can risk losing the 24-year-old on a free transfer.
"He has developed into a world-class player with us in the last three years," Zorc told Bild.
"Lewandowski is among the best three strikers in Europe. We don't depend on a transfer fee this term. Why shouldn't he stay another season?"
Lewandowski has scored 26 goals in all competitions so far this campaign.
