Bournemouth's Tommy Elphick could miss extended period of season with ankle injury

Bournemouth captain Tommy Elphick could be ruled out for an extended period of the season after suffering an ankle injury.

Bournemouth could be without captain Tommy Elphick for an extended period as the defender has suffered an ankle problem.

The 28-year-old has missed his side's last two games due to the injury, and has flown to see a specialist in Sweden to provide a diagnosis.

Cherries boss Eddie Howe has a growing injury list as Callum Wilson joined Tyrone Mings and Max Gradel to be ruled out for the majority of the campaign.

However, Howe is hopeful that Elphick's injury is not as severe as first feared, but refused to confirm when he would return to action.

He is quoted as saying by The Mirror: "Tommy has been to see a couple of specialists. We hope it is not too serious. He is unavailable for Saturday."

Bournemouth play Watford in their Premier League clash later today.
