Bournemouth fined £7.6m for Financial Fair Play breach

Bournemouth were fined £7.6m by the Football League for breaching Financial Fair Play rules in their promotion-winning season.

Premier League new boys Bournemouth were fined £7.6m by the Football League for the heavy losses that they made in their promotion-winning season.

The amount was initially undisclosed, but the club's accounts were published at Companies House recently and reveal exactly how much the Cherries had to pay for losing too much money last season.

In total, Bournemouth lost £38.3m as they went up last term, way over the permitted maximum losses of £6m for a season.

The Cherries' loss was an increase of £10.3m from the previous financial period, with staff wages up to £30.4m and turnover at just under £13m.

In the director notes within the published accounts it was stated: "The directors continue to maintain close control over expenditure and have implemented effective policies and procedures to ensure the club is run efficiently and effectively."

Bournemouth are guaranteed to be playing top-flight football again next season as they sit 15th in the table, nine points above the drop zone, with only two games left to play.
