Brighton & Hove Albion confirm double arrest

Brighton & Hove Albion reveal that one of the two arrests made during yesterday's game against Birmingham City was in relation to a previous racist incident.

Brighton & Hove Albion have confirmed that one of the two arrests made during the Championship match against Birmingham City on Saturday was in relation to a racist incident.

One supporter was apprehended after being reported by a fellow fan for using racist language before a previous home game while watching another match on television in the stadium concourse.

The other was arrested for throwing a smoke bomb onto the pitch from the away end.

Seagulls chief executive Paul Barber told the club website: "We pride ourselves on welcoming everyone at Brighton & Hove Albion and we simply will not tolerate any kind of xenophobic behaviour.

"We expect our fans to conduct themselves in a manner befitting to our club - and I am pleased that the vast majority are a credit to us.

"I applaud the supporter who came forward to report the incident, and would encourage any fan witnessing this type of behaviour to do likewise. Supporters can rest assured their information will be treated with the utmost discretion, that we will fully investigate all complaints of this nature and we will act accordingly."

The Seagulls won a topsy-turvy, seven-goal affair 4-3 at The Amex to pull three points clear of the relegation zone.
