Leeds United earn point at Brighton & Hove Albion

Brighton and Leeds United play out a thrilling 2-2 draw in tonight's Championship encounter at the Amex Stadium.

Brighton & Hove Albion and Leeds United have played out an enthralling 2-2 draw in tonight's Championship encounter at the Amex Stadium.

The home side had led twice, but substitute Luciano Becchio's fortuitous goal after the hour earned the visitors a share of the spoils.

The hosts had the better of the early possession and they were rewarded with 14 minutes on the clock when Craig Mackail-Smith smashed home a penalty following Lee Peltier's trip on Will Buckley.

The striker nearly found the net again moments later but his poked effort on goal came back off the post.

Leeds rarely looked threatening in the first half but they were level on 35 minutes when El-Hadji Diouf converted from the spot after Luke Varney had been bundled off the ball by Bruno Saltor.

Brighton went back in front soon after the restart as Mackail-Smith rounded off a clever passing move by tapping in past Paddy Kenny.

The home team pushed hard for a third goal but it was Leeds who drew level yet again when Becchio deflected in Michael Brown's shot.

Brighton were awarded another penalty in the 73rd minute when Sam Byram brought down Mackail-Smith, but Kenny made a simple save from the striker's spot kick.
