Brighton & Hove Albion announce the signing of Borussia Dortmund midfielder Mahmoud Dahoud on a four-year deal.

Brighton & Hove Albion have announce the signing of midfielder Mahmoud Dahoud for undisclosed terms on a four-year deal.

The 27-year-old will officially join the Seagulls on July 1 after his current contract at Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund expires at the end of this month.

Dahoud made a total of 141 appearances for Dortmund across all competitions during a six-year spell with the German club, scoring five goals and registering 17 assists as well as winning the DFB-Pokal in 2020-21 and the DFL-Supercup in 2019.

The midfielder became the first Syrian-born player to play in the Bundesliga when he made his professional debut with Borussia Monchengladbach in 2014 before representing the Foals 86 times over a three-year period.

Dahoud, a two-cap Germany international, is now swapping the German top flight for the Premier League with Brighton, who secured their first-ever top-six finish in the 2022-23 season and will compete in next season's Europa League for the first time in their history.

Speaking to Brighton's official website on Dahoud's arrival at the Amex Stadium, head coach Roberto De Zerbi said: "I'm excited to have Mahmoud in my team. I wanted him when I was at Sassuolo and I'm sure he is going to be a top player for us."

Technical director David Weir added: "We're delighted to bring Mahmoud to the club, his quality and ability will really add to the options available to Roberto.

"He's a quality player, he's got lots of experience playing at a high level in Germany with great experience in Europe too.

"We're looking forward to working with Mahmoud when pre-season starts next month and to seeing him in action in the Summer Series in the United States in July."

Dahoud becomes Brighton's third signing of the summer transfer window after Joao Pedro and James Milner, the latter of whom was officially unveiled as a new Seagulls player on Wednesday.
