Charlie Austin gives Burnley half-time lead over Charlton Athletic in their Championship clash.

Burnley lead Charlton Athletic at half time in their Championship clash at The Valley thanks to a Charlie Austin strike.

The visitors started the game brightly and could have taken the lead in the opening minutes but Martin Paterson fired his effort over the bar when well placed in the penalty area.

Charlton responded to the early threat from Burnley through Danny Haynes, who just couldn't get enough power on his header to trouble Lee Grant.

Debutant Alex Kacaniklic came close to firing the visitors into the lead as he found space inside the box, but David Button made a good save from close range.

Austin finally broke the deadlock just before the break as he powered an effort home into the roof of the net leaving Button with no chance.
