Joan Laporta: 'Jose Mourinho is not Barcelona target'

Former Barcelona president Joan Laporta denies that he is considering an approach to make Jose Mourinho the next manager of the Spanish club.

Former Barcelona president Joan Laporta has denied that he is considering an approach to make Jose Mourinho the next manager of the club.

The Portuguese held a coaching role at Camp Nou between 1996 and 2000, working under Sir Bobby Robson and Louis van Gaal.

Reports have suggested that Laporta will seek to hire Chelsea manager Mourinho as the La Liga side's new boss if he is re-elected as president, but the Spanish politician has played down the rumours.

"My style of coaching is with the [Johan] Cruyff philosophy," the London Evening Standard quotes Laporta as saying.

"Mourinho is a great professional and I respect him, but I did not mention him with Jorge Mendes, a person with whom I have a good friendship for many years.

"From time to time, we talk about things."

Luis Enrique was appointed Barcelona coach during the summer.
