Jose Mourinho coy on Chelsea title hopes - COMMENTS MADE BEFORE THE GAME

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho maintains that his side are not Premier League title favourites despite extending their lead at the top to seven points.

Jose Mourinho has maintained that Chelsea are not Premier League title favourites despite going seven points clear at the top of the table.

A 4-0 victory over Tottenham Hotspur at Stamford Bridge extended the Blues' lead over the chasing pack, courtesy of goals from Samuel Eto'o, Eden Hazard and a late Demba Ba brace.

However, Mourinho says the title race is still wide open with Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester City each having a game in hand over his side, while the aim of finishing in the top four still remains the main priority.

"We want to try and win and they will want to do the same," the 51-year-old told Sky Sports following the game. "We want our top-four position to be safe and in this moment the biggest threat to that top-four position is Tottenham because they are fifth and they are the closest team to the top four.

"So if you can get a result against them you can say our objective of finishing in the top four is in a very good direction. I keep saying [going seven points clear] is not a realistic position. A realistic situation is teams with the same number of matches and in that situation you can say 'I am in front, I am behind' or 'I have some points advantage or disadvantage'.

"When some teams have more matches than other teams, then it is not real. So I do not look at the table, I just look to another game. Tomorrow is another game and we will just try and win."

Chelsea are back in action next Saturday when they take on Aston Villa.
