FA charge John Terry of alleged racial abuse

The Football Association charge Chelsea captain John Terry for allegedly racially abusing Queens Park Rangers defender Anton Ferdinand.

Chelsea captain John Terry has been charged by the Football Association for allegedly racially abusing Queens Park Rangers defender Anton Ferdinand.

The England international, who was cleared of a racially-aggravated public order by Westminster Magistrates' Court in this case, was subject to a separate investigation by the governing body following the trial.

A statement on the FA's official website said: "This charge is the result of The FA's long-standing enquiries into this matter, which were placed on hold pending the outcome of the criminal trial, and relates to rules governing football only. During this period John Terry remains available to play for England."

Terry, who was accused of the incident following a West London derby at Loftus Road last October, has until August 3 to respond to the charge.
