John Terry praises 'classy' Chelsea fans for Steven Gerrard standing ovation

Chelsea captain John Terry believes that the fans' standing ovation for Liverpool skipper John Terry was a 'classy' gesture.

John Terry has described the Chelsea fans as a "class act" after they gave Liverpool skipper Steven Gerrard a standing ovation in his final appearance at Stamford Bridge.

The midfielder, who will join MLS side Los Angeles Galaxy in the summer, was substituted in the second half of Sunday's 1-1 draw.

While leaving the field, Gerrard, who scored the Reds' only goal of the game, was clapped off by both sets of fans, as well as Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho.

After the game, the 34-year-old criticised the Chelsea following for 'slaughtering' him throughout the game before he was substituted, but Terry has praised the supporters for paying tribute to his former England teammate.

"It was a very nice touch from the fans, when everything is put to one side, we're big rivals but he's an absolute legend and to get that send-off from the Chelsea fans was a class act," Terry told the club's official website.

Terry scored the only other goal of the game.
