Gianfranco Zola: 'Alvaro Morata must find consistency'

Former Chelsea striker Gianfranco Zola has challenged Blues newcomer Alvaro Morata to add consistency to his game at Stamford Bridge.

The 24-year-old became the club's record signing over the summer when he completed a £60m switch from Real Madrid, one year after returning to the La Liga side from a two-season sabbatical with Juventus.

Morata has since made a strong start to life in the Premier League, scoring three times and registering two assists in his first four games, and Zola thinks that he can only get better under the tutelage of Antonio Conte.

"I know he is a very talented player with amazing skills, but he has never been a regular," he told talkSPORT.

"He played with Juventus and he wasn't a regular, the same for Real Madrid. Nobody doubts his qualities but he is still young and needs to find consistency because when you play for teams like Juventus, Real Madrid and Chelsea you have to be consistent.

"Obviously Antonio Conte with his methods, his work ethic, he is helping him a lot and it seems he is going in the right direction.

"For Chelsea, the main striker is a vital position and if he plays well then [Eden] Hazard, Pedro, Willian, all the players around him, will play well also."

Morata enjoyed the most prolific season of his career last term, scoring 15 times in 26 La Liga appearances for Los Blancos.
