Former Aston Villa centre-back Gary Cahill has praised Stiliyan Petrov's "quality" following the 33-year-old's announcement that he is retiring from football.
Cahill said that not only was Petrov a top footballer, but he is also a good person and will be missed in the game.
"He was fantastic. He captained me a few times when I was there," BBC Sport quotes Cahill as saying.
"He was not just a quality footballer but as a guy, a family man, he was top drawer. He has got a lot of friends in the game so it is sad to see that, but I wish him all the best. He was a really nice guy."
Neil Lennon has also paid tribute to his former teammate.
