Report: Chelsea eye £12m move for John Stones

Chelsea are reportedly closing in on a move for Everton defender John Stones worth £12m and want to sign him before the start of the World Cup.

Chelsea want to sign Everton defender John Stones in a £12m deal before the start of the World Cup, according to a report.

The 19-year-old impressed with his performances for Roberto Martinez's side last season as he helped them secure a Europa League place by finishing in fifth in the Premier League.

Stones's form saw him placed on Roy Hodgson's standby list for England's World Cup campaign, where his selection for the main squad depends on the fitness of Phil Jones.

However, Chelsea are ready to make a swift move for the defender before the tournament and are hopeful that the Toffees will agree to a deal worth £12m, reports The People.

Stones signed for Everton in January 2013 in a £3m move from Barnsley.
