Neil Warnock closing in on Crystal Palace return?

Neil Warnock is reportedly close to returning to Crystal Palace for a second spell in charge of the team.

Neil Warnock is reportedly close to returning to former club Crystal Palace after Steve Clarke fell out of the running.

Former West Bromwich Albion boss Clarke and Warnock were believed to be the only contenders for the position after a deal to recruit Malky Mackay fell through.

The Scotsman was poised to replace Tony Pulis, who walked away from Selhurst Park just two days before the season began, but allegations of offensive text messages appeared to pull the plug on the deal.

According to BBC Sport, Warnock, who worked as Palace boss from 2007 to 2010, is expected to be named as Pulis's successor after spending 16 months away from the game following his Leeds United exit.

Keith Millen took temporary charge of the team following Pulis's departure.
