England manager Roy Hodgson has said that it is an "amazing achievement" for Wayne Rooney to have become the nation's record goalscorer.
The 29-year-old scored his 50th international goal in a 2-0 win over Switzerland, to move ahead of Bobby Charlton's long-standing tally.
"It's an amazing achievement," BBC Sport quotes Hodgson as saying. "We have congratulated him in the dressing room. My mind goes to Bobby Charlton too, he was one of our greatest players. I hope that he is pleased that it was Wayne that did it.
"You think records will never be broken but they do. Will it be broken? It doesn't concern me, it doesn't concern Wayne. The most important thing is that we keep improving out performances.
Charlton's record of 49 goals for the Three Lions had stood for 45 years.
