Gareth Southgate quiet on whether he wants England job full-time

Gareth Southgate says that he has not had time to consider whether he wants to become England manager on a full-time basis.

Gareth Southgate has claimed that he has not had time to think about whether he wants the England managerial job full time.

The 46-year-old, who is in charge of the England Under-21s, has been promoted to the senior side on an interim basis following the departure of Sam Allardyce.

The Football Association is hunting for a new manager after Allardyce was forced out of the role just 67 days after being hired when he was caught up in The Telegraph's investigation into corruption in football.

Following Roy Hodgson's resignation after Euro 2016, Southgate ruled himself out of the job, but when asked in this morning's press conference if he would like to take it on, he said: "The last week was very difficult and we have an opportunity to work with a group of players who are young and we need to provide stability.

"I've not had any chance to think anything other than how we prepare for this week. Anything beyond that can wait when everybody's had time to breathe."

Southgate will be in charge of the Three Lions' World Cup qualifiers against Malta and Slovenia in the next fortnight.
