Roberto Martinez baffled by referee Lee Mason decisions

Everton boss Roberto Martinez admits that he was baffled by the decision making of referee Lee Mason in his side's 1-0 defeat to Stoke City in their Premier League clash.

Everton boss Roberto Martinez has slammed the decisions of referee Lee Mason in his side's 1-0 defeat to Stoke City at Goodison Park.

The Toffees slumped to their third defeat in four games as they lost to the Potters when a strike from the penalty spot from Bojan Krkic decided the contest.

However, the Spaniard was left fuming with the decision to award Mark Hughes's side the penalty, along with Mason's call not to send off Jonathan Walters after bringing down Leighton Baines when it appeared he was the last man in defence.

He told reporters: "I think the decision on Walters was difficult to understand. Leighton is through on goal, there is no other Stoke defender, he is the last man and there is a clear goalscoring opportunity.

"I don't understand why it was a yellow card, it was either a red card or nothing. The penalty, I understand it. I know the culture well, I was brought up in the Catalan culture, he has been brought up in a way to make the referee make a decision.

"But clearly there's been no contact. We're not having a great time at the moment and are relying on the referee to get the decisions right. It doesn't help our position when he doesn't."

Everton dropped to 12th in the Premier League with their loss to Stoke.
