Everton manager Roberto Martinez has revealed that he has been delighted with the way that Ross Barkley has performed since he took charge of the club earlier this summer.
Nineteen-year-old Barkley started and scored during Saturday's 2-2 draw with Norwich City - a display for which he earned a number of plaudits.
When asked for his view on the midfielder, Martinez told the club's official website: "The goal that he scored was a wonderful piece of skill and a wonderful piece of quality but I was really happy with his contribution, the responsibility he took and his performance.
"Any youngster could be very, very proud of what he did. He got on the ball and he made us play. It's not about him wanting to perform like that consistently - I think that's where he is now."
England youth international Barkley joined the Toffees as a trainee in 2005.
