Everton are said to be "confident" that Leighton Baines will agree terms on a new 12-month extension this week.

Everton are reportedly "confident" that veteran left-back Leighton Baines will sign a new deal to remain at the club this week.

The 34-year-old, who has been with the Toffees for 12 years, is out of contract at the end of the month and had been tipped to leave Goodison.

According to the Liverpool Echo, the two sides have been engaged in discussions over new terms from some time and Everton expect the England international to put pen to paper on a 12-month extension before the end of the week.

Manager Marco Silva is said to be determined to keep hold of Baines as back-up to Lucas Digne, who usurped him at left-back following his arrival from Barcelona last summer.

During his time at Everton, Baines has turned out more than 400 times in all competitions, placing him 14th on the club's all-time appearances list.
