Didier Deschamps "expects more" from Anthony Martial

France boss Didier Deschamps says that he "expects more" from Anthony Martial after leaving the Manchester United forward out of his latest squad.

France boss Didier Deschamps has revealed that he "expects more" from Anthony Martial after deciding to leave the Manchester United forward out of his latest squad.

The 20-year-old has struggled to replicate his 2015-16 form in the early stages of the campaign, while a couple of troublesome injuries have made it a frustrating season for the youngster thus far.

Deschamps has decided to leave Martial out of his selection for France's upcoming internationals against Sweden and Ivory Coast and has challenged the former AS Monaco winger to improve.

"I think that his coach (Jose Mourinho) expects more from him, me too," Deschamps told reporters. "I don't forget what he can do, what he did. It's up to him to work and get back to his best level. Yes, he's playing a lot less. It can happen.

"It's kind of the same situation for Kingsley [Coman], they are young players who lived some things very early, they have many qualities obviously. He has a step to climb, but first, he has to do it with his club, and today he's not at the level he should be."

Martial has only scored once in 15 international games for France.
