Italy coach Cesare Prandelli has admitted that he does not think his side can win the European Championships this summer.
The Azzurri's last major tournament resulted in them becoming the first World Cup holders to exit the competition at the group stages.
Thus, Prandelli's focus is on restoring some pride in the national team rather than being crowned champions in Ukraine and Poland.
"We are not going to win Euro, but I like to say that the Italians know how to surprise," said Prandelli, who replaced Marcello Lippi after their disappointing 2010 World Cup campaign.
"I would like to show that the team has at least worked well and which is arriving at this Euro knowing it is experiencing a unique moment with a smile on its lips."
Manchester City's Mario Balotelli is among the Premier League players in the provisional Italy squad.
