Preview: Bolton Wanderers vs. Liverpool

Sports Mole looks ahead to Wednesday's FA Cup fourth-round replay between Bolton Wanderers and Liverpool.

Liverpool's biggest chance of winning silverware this season is by going all the way in the FA Cup, but in order to progress into the fifth round, they have to get past Championship side Bolton Wanderers on Wednesday night.

The Reds remain in the hat for Europa League triumph, but the importance of the FA Cup has heightened for Brendan Rodgers and his team after they were knocked out of the Capital One Cup by Chelsea in the semi-final.

Both Liverpool and Bolton have a second attempt to progress into the next phase of the domestic competition after neither side could break the deadlock a fortnight ago and the match finished goalless at Anfield.

This week, Liverpool have been boosted by the return of striker Daniel Sturridge, who spent five months out injured but managed to score within 10 minutes of his cameo in the Reds' 2-0 win over West Ham United on Saturday.

Rodgers has suggested that the 25-year-old is weeks away from starting a game, but it is highly unlikely that the England international, who has been struggling with calf and thigh problems, will be named on the bench.

Saturday's triumph was Liverpool's third consecutive victory in the Premier League and their fluid, attacking play seems to have returned as they are now unbeaten in seven games in the top flight.

With regards to Bolton, since their goalless draw at Anfield, they have suffered a heavy 4-2 defeat to Rotherham United in the Championship, but fought back to secure a late 2-2 draw with Wolverhampton Wanderers at the weekend.

In terms of the FA Cup, in the two games that the Trotters have played, goals were hard to come by as they failed to strike against Liverpool and a solitary Zach Clough goal was enough to put the team through against Wigan Athletic in the third round.

Goalkeeper Adam Bogdan denied Liverpool numerous times during their meeting at Anfield, but the shot-stopper will not be involved as he is out of action for six weeks with injury.

Ben Amos was brought in on loan from Manchester United to act as cover, but Andy Lonergan could keep his place between the sticks at the Macron Stadium.

For Liverpool, captain Steven Gerrard could return to the fold after he was left out of the squad that secured victory over West Ham at the weekend, while Raheem Sterling, Adam Lallana and Philippe Coutinho could all keep their places in the first XI.
