Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp reveals that Fabio Carvalho will miss Sunday's FA Cup fourth-round tie with Brighton & Hove Albion due to injury.

Jurgen Klopp has revealed that Fabio Carvalho will miss Sunday's FA Cup fourth-round clash with Brighton & Hove Albion due to injury.

The 20-year-old has been a regular in domestic knockout tournaments for Liverpool this season and was named in the first XI for the Reds' third-round replay win over Wolverhampton Wanderers last week.

Carvalho - who has three goals from 19 games for Liverpool in his debut season - could have come into contention for a start at the Amex, with Klopp expected to make a couple of alterations for the FA Cup showdown.

However, speaking at his pre-game press conference, Klopp revealed that the ex-Fulham starlet had not trained this week due to a minor problem and would not be available for Sunday.

"Fabio Carvalho is out. He has a little thing but he is out [for the weekend]," Klopp told reporters, as the attacker joins Liverpool's five long-term absentees in the treatment room.

The Reds have been managing without Luis Diaz, Diogo Jota and Arthur for a number of months, while Roberto Firmino and Virgil van Dijk are also sidelined with calf and hamstring issues respectively.

Offering an update on Jota, Firmino and Van Dijk, Klopp admitted that the trio will be out for at least another fortnight, adding: "No closer to a return. Diogo, Bobby and Virgil will take a couple weeks before they join training."

Meanwhile, luckless midfielder Arthur - who played just 13 minutes for Liverpool before being forced to undergo surgery on a thigh injury - could return to team training in the next two to three weeks as he steps up his recovery.

With Arthur sidelined and Fabinho out of form, Klopp has opened the door for Stefan Bajcetic to make his first-team breakthrough, and the 18-year-old was rewarded with a new long-term contract on Thursday.

Bajcetic could make his third successive start for Liverpool in Sunday's clash with Brighton, and Klopp believes that the teenager has added a new dimension to the Reds' game in recent weeks.

"Really happy and really pleased he signed a new contract," Klopp added. "We had to be pretty careful with him because of his age. He has shown us he is ready. His skills are something we haven't shown in recent games. He has good aggression and he has good football on top of that."

Liverpool have held off on signing a new midfielder this month, with their only January signing so far being Dutch attacker Cody Gakpo, and no senior players have departed either.

However, out-of-favour defender Nat Phillips has been frequently linked with an exit, having played just five games all season, and competition for centre-back spots has increased with Rhys Williams being recalled from his loan spell at Blackpool.

Klopp admitted that Phillips - who has recently been suffering from a cold - could potentially be on the way out before Monday's deadline, adding: "It depends on the offers. We're prepared for everything. We'll see."

Liverpool are making their second trip to the Amex this month after suffering a 3-0 loss to Brighton in the Premier League on January 14, with Solly March bagging a brace before Danny Welbeck rounded off a magnificent Seagulls win.
