FIFA president Sepp Blatter has expressed his sympathies to the families affected by the Hillsborough tragedy and is hopeful that the recent revelations bring "peace" to Liverpool.
Previously unseen documents relating to the disaster were released yesterday, which completely exonerated Reds fans from blame for the death of 96 of their own supporters after it emerged that the South Yorkshire police had amended up to 164 statements in order to cover up their incompetence.
Blatter wrote on Twitter: "No fan should go to a game and not return home. Their safety should always be of paramount importance.
"I sincerely hope the findings and the apologies bring some peace to the still-grieving families and the people of Liverpool."
Meanwhile, the Football Association have issued a statement welcoming the findings of the independent report.
