Jamie Carragher: 'James Milner could be Liverpool captain'

Jamie Carragher believes that James Milner could compete with Jordan Henderson for the Liverpool captaincy should he complete his move to the club.

Jamie Carragher has claimed that James Milner could become Liverpool captain if he completes his move to Anfield.

The England international is expected to join on a free transfer when his Manchester City contract officially expires at the end of the month, and Carragher believes that the midfielder could compete with Jordan Henderson to become Steven Gerrard's replacement as skipper.

"The news of the likely arrival of James Milner at Liverpool throws up a few questions, I think it's a very good signing a free transfer who can play in a few positions and got great experience," the Liverpool defender told Kicca.

"The fact that Brendan Rodgers wouldn't confirm Jordan Henderson as this season's captain even though he was captain in Gerrard's absence last season makes me think him and Milner could be competing for the armband."

Milner is believed to have rejected a move to Arsenal in favour of signing for Liverpool.
