Steven Gerrard expects "relentless" Mario Balotelli to go on goalscoring run

Steven Gerrard believes that "relentless" Mario Balotelli will be prolific in front of goal for Liverpool after netting his first in the Champions League on Tuesday.

Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard is confident that Mario Balotelli will score "many" more goals after opening his account in the Champions League last night.

The Italy international struck in the second half of a frustrating 2-1 victory over Ludogorets Razgrad in the Reds' opening Group B game at Anfield.

"I think [the goal] will be the first of many," Gerrard told the club's official website. "I thought he worked his socks off.

"Sometimes, when it's not going a striker's way, they sulk and they give up, but he was relentless. He stayed in there and the one good chance that came his way, he took it. I thought it was a great finish."

The Bulgarian side equalised in the final minute of normal time, but Gerrard rescued all three points for his Merseyside outfit by scoring a penalty in injury time.
