Kenny Dalglish says that it would be "wrong" to rush Steven Gerrard back to Liverpool's starting lineup.

Steven Gerrard is unlikely to start for Liverpool against Oldham in the FA Cup tie on Friday.

The Reds captain, who returned to action against Newcastle United last week, is not expected to be rushed back to Kenny Dalglish's starting lineup following a long-term bout of injuries.

"Stevie is improving his level of fitness all the time but we have to be very careful as to how he prepares," Dalglish told the club's official website.

"It would be wrong of us to be negligent and throw him in and undo all the good work he has done so far. We would love to have him back fit and well but we just have to be a bit patient."

The 31-year-old scored in his first appearance back from injury in Liverpool's 3-1 win over the Magpies last Friday.
