Liverpool will attempt to set a new club goalscoring record when they square off against Bournemouth in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.

Liverpool will attempt to set a new club goalscoring record when they face Bournemouth in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.

For much of 2022-23, Jurgen Klopp's side have endured a mixed campaign, spending the majority of the season outside of the top four in the Premier League standings.

The Merseyside giants also recently suffered a 5-2 defeat at home to Real Madrid in the Champions League, leaving the club on the brink of an exit at the last-16 stage.

However, more recently, Liverpool have put together an improved run of form, collecting 13 points from a possible 15 in the top flight to move to within touching distance of fourth-placed Tottenham Hotspur.

Liverpool warmed up for the trip to the Vitality Stadium this weekend by thrashing rivals Manchester United by a 7-0 scoreline on March 5.

Klopp's side now possess the third-best attacking record in the division, but almost a third of their strikes have come from the dominant triumph over the Red Devils and beating Bournemouth by an even wider margin in August.

Liverpool remarkably prevailed 9-0 versus the South Coast outfit, who were then managed by Scott Parker, and it led to the Englishman's departure two days later.

After almost hitting double figures against Bournemouth last time out, Liverpool now have an opportunity to break a long-standing club record.

If Liverpool score three times or more versus Gary O'Neil's side, they will have netted the most times against one opponent in a single season in their top-flight history.

Liverpool have previously scored 11 times across two fixtures in a single campaign on five occasions, most recently doing so versus Ipswich Town in 2001-02.

History is not in Bournemouth's favour when it comes to trying to deny Liverpool that record having lost their last seven league matches with Saturday's visitors by an aggregate scoreline of 28-1.

Meanwhile, Roberto Firmino, who recently informed Liverpool that he will be leaving the club at the end of the season, has 12 goal involvements during his time of facing Bournemouth.

The Brazilian has only provided more contributions against one other opponent in Arsenal, whom he has recorded a strike or assist on 13 occasions.
