Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers targets second place in Premier League

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers says that his team are targeting second place in the Premier League after moving within four points of Man City with a win over Swansea.

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has insisted that his team are capable of finishing higher than fourth in the Premier League with nine games left to play.

The Merseyside outfit are two points behind fourth-placed Manchester United and just four adrift of reigning champions Manchester City, who occupy second.

The Reds stretched their unbeaten run in the league to 13 matches last night with a 1-0 victory over Swansea City at the Liberty Stadium.

"Everybody talks about fourth, but it was the same last year - we want to do the best we can do and I think Manchester City's result at the weekend gives us an opportunity to finish second," the Daily Star quotes Rodgers as saying.

"Our growing maturity and the run we are on and the confidence it is building, we can take that into the games that are left and see where it takes us."

Liverpool, who finished second last season, will take on arch rivals United at Anfield on Sunday.
