Liverpool are reportedly preparing to open discussions with defender Andrew Robertson over a new contract.

Liverpool reportedly have plans to hold contract discussions with Andrew Robertson during the summer.

Now competing in his seventh campaign at Anfield, Robertson has established himself as one of the club's best left-backs in their history.

As well as winning a Premier League title, Champions League trophy and numerous other domestic silverware, Robertson has contributed nine goals and 64 assists from 283 appearances in all competitions.

Robertson has now reached the age of 29 and his dislocated shoulder from earlier in the campaign has led to other candidates for his position to showcase their qualities.

Kostas Tsimikas is the natural deputy, but the versatile Joe Gomez and youngster Owen Beck have also shown on occasions that they can fill in when required.

Nevertheless, the Scotland international is the undisputed first choice when fit and Liverpool will not want to see any interest emerge from elsewhere.

The planned departure of Jurgen Klopp may, in theory, lead to some long-serving Liverpool players to contemplate whether they want to take on a new challenge before the appointment of a new manager.

In the case of Robertson, he holds a contract until 2026, leaving the Merseyside giants in a strong position with regards to retaining his services for at least another season.

However, according to Football Insider, there are plans in place to discuss fresh terms with Robertson later in the year.

That will allegedly be the case when Liverpool have settled on a new manager and sporting director, even though any new incumbents will likely want to keep Robertson in their ranks.

Speculation has emerged in recent weeks that Robertson may be viewed as a potential replacement for Alphonso Davies at Bayern Munich, should the Canada international not extend his contract past 2025.

Liverpool are said to be currently unconcerned by that interest, Bayern also in a position where they must secure the services of a new head coach for next season.

Robertson will now be focused on a big week on the pitch, Liverpool facing Sparta Prague in the first leg of their Europa League last-16 tie before a potentially-pivotal Premier League showdown with Manchester City on March 10.
