Pepe Reina denies Barcelona contact

Liverpool goalkeeper and Napoli loanee Pepe Reina insists that Barcelona have not been in touch regarding a potential return to the La Liga giants next summer.

On-loan Liverpool goalkeeper Pepe Reina has insisted that no agreement is in place with Barcelona for him to join them next summer.

The La Liga giants are planning for life after long-term stopper Victor Valdes, who has announced that he will be leaving Camp Nou at the end of the season after 18 years of service.

It is widely understood that Reina is one of their top targets, but the 31-year-old, who joined Italian outfit Napoli on a season-long deal in the last transfer window, has stressed that Barcelona have not been in contact over a permanent move away from Anfield.

"It is normal that a player dreams of representing a club like Barcelona or Real Madrid because they are historic and prestigious teams," he said to Spanish radio station Cope.

"But there was no contact between me and Barcelona, that was just an invention of the newspapers.

"I have a contract with Liverpool until 2016. I do not care about the rumours. I am excited to be at Napoli and will try and win something here."

Reina played alongside Valdes in the Barcelona youth academy before leaving them for Villarreal in 2002.
