Brendan Rodgers expects Raheem Sterling to see out Liverpool contract

Brendan Rodgers says that he expects Raheem Sterling to see out the final two years of his contract at Liverpool, even if the youngster rejects a new deal.

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers is confident that Raheem Sterling will see through the remaining two years on his contract, despite rumours that the youngster wants to leave Anfield.

The 20-year-old rejected a £100,000-a-week deal earlier this season and has maintained that he will not hold contract talks with the Merseyside club until the summer.

The England international's agent Aidy Ward was alleged to have claimed on Thursday that Sterling will "definitely not" sign fresh terms, even if the club offer £900,000-a-week wages.

Sterling's representative was also quoted as saying that he 'doesn't care' if Liverpool's reputation is being damaged by the transfer saga, but the agent has now rubbished the quotes and is seeking legal advice.

Liverpool had arranged to hold a meeting with their player and his representatives today, but following Ward's alleged comments, talks have been cancelled.

When asked about the current situation regarding Sterling, Rodgers told reporters: "It's difficult to comment on what other people speak about, but we've always been here. If we've got meetings to discuss, it'll all be dealt with internally, we don't like to publicise what we're going to do.

"For me, the concentration for myself is to continue to improve Raheem as a football player. The facts are very simple, Raheem has two years left on his deal and Liverpool and I expect him to see that two years through.

"I don't see Raheem being unhappy. I think Raheem's representatives made it very clear they wanted to speak at the end of the season. So for us out concentration is on the last game, and I'm sure talks with take place over the summer."

Manchester City, Chelsea and Bayern Munich are among the elite clubs who have been linked with a summer swoop for Sterling.
