Talks are underway between Liverpool and Juventus for the transfer of Emre Can, according to Juve chief executive Giuseppe Marotta.
German midfielder Can, whose current Reds deal runs until June, has been linked with a move to Italy throughout the January transfer window.
The 23-year-old is free to sign a pre-contract agreement with other clubs due to his contract situation, and according to Marotta, negotiations have already begun with Jurgen Klopp's team.
"We are in optimum position to achieve all the objectives we have set out," the chief executive told RMC Sport.
"Talks are well underway with Emre Can, but the negotiations are not at all concluded."
Liverpool have made one significant acquisition in the transfer window, signing centre-back Virgil van Dijk from Southampton in a £75m deal.
