Pep Guardiola states that it was "written in the stars" for Manchester City to win the Champions League after they beat Inter Milan 1-0 in Saturday's final.

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has stated that the club's Champions League triumph was "written in the stars".

The Citizens won the Champions League for the first time in their history after beating Inter Milan 1-0 at the Ataturk Olympic Stadium in Istanbul.

Rodri scored the all-important goal in the 68th minute to secure the silverware and wrap up a historic treble for Man City.

Guardiola, who has won the Champions League on three occasions as a manager, joins Sir Alex Ferguson as the only two managers to win the treble with English clubs.

After lifting the Champions League trophy for the first time since 2011, Guardiola was asked how he was feeling.

"Tired. Calm. Satisfied," the Man City boss told BT Sport. "It's so difficult to win it. It's a question of being patient and you have to be lucky.

"At the end, Ederson...he could have missed it, they could have been level. This competition is a coin-toss. It was written in the stars. It belongs to us.

"We weren't at our best level. After the World Cup the team made a step forward and we were there. It wasn't our best performance.

Commenting on what comes next for his side, Guardiola said: "I don't have any energy to think about next season, it's impossible. We need a break, it's too long.

"Our players have international games now. UEFA and FIFA, think about it. The Premier League finished two or three weeks ago, now people have to come back. It's too much. We will start from zero next season.

"We're going to celebrate in the hotel with family and friends. Monday the parade is in Manchester. With this competition, the treble is so difficult."

Guardiola has now become the first manager to achieve the European treble with two clubs, after previously achieving the feat as Barcelona manager in the 2008-09 season.

In addition to the Champions League, Guardiola has won five Premier League titles, two FA Cups, four EFL Cups and two Community Shields since being appointed Man City boss in 2016.
