Joleon Lescott admits that late heroics from Manchester City in recent weeks have reminded him of famous Manchester United sides from the past.

Manchester City defender Joleon Lescott believes that their ability to keep going until the final whistle is a sign of the spirit in the squad.

Edin Dzeko scored an injury-time winner against West Bromwich Albion last weekend, an achievement made all the more impressive considering Roberto Mancini's side trailed with 10 minutes to play.

City also snatched a late win in their last away match at Craven Cottage to help add to a growing reputation for grinding out results in the latter stages of important games.

Lescott believes that comeback victories are a trait maintained by trophy-winning sides and admitted it reminds him of title rivals Manchester United.

He told The Sun: "If we can take something from our neighbours and use it to benefit us, then great.

"Everyone knows we are a good footballing side. But when we need to dig in and be together we can do that. We showed that."

City revert to Champions League action in midweek with a trip to Amsterdam to face Dutch champions Ajax.
