Manchester City to break transfer record for Atletico Madrid midfielder Rodri?

A report claims that Manchester City are ready to trigger the £60.6m release clause in Rodri's Atletico Madrid contract, making him their record purchase.

Manchester City are prepared to break their transfer record to sign Atletico Madrid midfielder Rodri, according to a report.

The Citizens are believed to have focused their attention on recruiting the Spain international as a long-term replacement for Fernandinho in the holding-midfield position.

Atletico are not looking to sell the 22-year-old, but The Telegraph suggests that he has a £60.6m release clause in his contract and City are ready to trigger it.

Rodri has been watched up close by City scouts and director of football Txiki Begiristain in recent weeks, it is claimed, and the reigning Premier League champions believe that he is the right fit to replace Fernandinho.

City, whose current record transfer fee is the £60m splashed out to sign Riyad Mahrez from Leicester City last summer, also have their eyes on Lyon ace Tanguy Ndombele.
