Adnan Januzaj hits out at Manchester United treatment under Mourinho, Van Gaal

Ex-Manchester United youngster Adnan Januzaj feels that he was not given a fair opportunity to make a name for himself at the club under Louis Van Gaal and Jose Mourinho.

Former Manchester United starlet Adnan Januzaj does not believe that he was given a fair opportunity at Old Trafford under Jose Mourinho and Louis van Gaal.

The Real Sociedad winger was tipped for big things at United after enjoying a breakthrough 2013-14 campaign under David Moyes, contributing four goals and four assists in the Premier League as a teenager.

However, the Belgium international failed to live up to his high expectations at Old Trafford, and he spent time on loan at Sunderland and Borussia Dortmund before penning a permanent deal with Sociedad.

Man United legend Nicky Butt has claimed that Januzaj was one of the biggest disappointments to come through the youth ranks at United, and the Belgian attacker has blamed a lack of opportunities for his demise at the club.

Speaking to ESPN, Januzaj said: "What he (Butt) said, it's true. But the only problem is that I didn't have the right coach to get me on my level and to push me. When Van Gaal came I was playing one game out of six, so it was difficult, and I was like, 'What am I doing here?'

"At United I didn't have that many chances, especially when Van Gaal and Mourinho came. When they came there it was more difficult for me because I was a young player.

"I was 18 or 19 and I just had to accept things. Before that I had people who believed in me like Ferguson. If he had stayed there longer I think I would have played longer for Manchester United."

Januzaj has since become a regular for Sociedad and will renew hostilities with Man United in Thursday's Europa League last-32 first leg in Turin.
